How I Got Over Part 2: A Consecrated Complaint (CD)
To cry is human, to lament is a consecrated complaint. Artists often put transgression and pleas for reform in creative artistic expression. Last week, we talked about lament in term of spirituals. Today, we look at it from a contemporary genre of music, as we look past the words to see the wisdom of the hip-hop prophet, Tupac Shakur, with the goal of helping us notice the pervasive power of the poetic device —lament. The lyrics of Tupac Shakur that, as Dr. Michael Eric Dyson says, “drip with the sense of the divine,” examined alongside the cries of David in Psalm 3. David teaches us that we make our complaints to the Christ who cares. No circumstance cancels His love for you.
